NVMS Fall Meeting 2024
We had a fantastic time at the NVMS Fall Meeting 2024 at Danone in Utrecht, packed with insightful mass spec talks, engaging discussions, and the latest updates from the Dutch mass spectrometry community!
The day began with a keynote by Michiel Vermeulen (RUN), who shared pioneering research on lineage specification during early embryogenesis using multilayered proteomics. Throughout the morning, Kevin Jooss (VU), Jessica Del Castillo-Alferez (Sanquin), Marek Noga (MUMC), and Alienke van Pijkeren (RUG) presented their research on cutting-edge topics, from CE-MS in top-down proteomics to advances in single-cell proteomics.
In the afternoon, we explored advanced glycoproteomics and metabolomics, including talks from Marko Mank (Danone) on profiling human milk oligosaccharides, Manuel Peris-Diaz (UU) on N-glycosylation, and Mariyana Savova (LACDR) on synbiotic treatments in infants. Wouter de Bruijn (WUR) and Dinko Šoić (TUD) delved into food isomer characterization and protein glycosylation in bacteria.
At the General Assembly, we received exciting updates on the NVMS Science Fund and voted to welcome Berta Cillero Pastor, Associate Professor at Maastricht University, as the new Secretary of the NVMS board. Congratulations to Berta on her new role—looking forward to her contributions to our community!
A highlight was the lively panel discussion on “AI and Ethics in Science,” led by Magnus Palmblad (LUMC), Tess Afanasyeva (Sanquin), and Sarah Carter (TUD), sparking meaningful debate about AI’s role in research.
Thanks to all our speakers and attendees for making it a truly memorable event!
