DEI Panel Discussion 2025

On November 19th, the NVMS Fall Meeting took place at House of Connections – Rijksuniversiteit Groningen, where the youngNVMS organized the Diversity, Equity & Inclusion (DEI) Panel Discussion.

Diversity, Equity & Inclusion (DEI)

The event featured a meaningful panel discussion centered on Diversity, Equity & Inclusion (DEI). The session opened with a presentation of the results from the DEI survey that was spread around within the Dutch mass spectrometry community, revealing that more than half of respondents have experienced or observed some form of bias or discrimination. This striking outcome set the stage for an open and constructive dialogue.

The panel was introduced by the chair of NVMS, Prof. Dr. Anouk Rijs, and the discussion was led by Christel Kuik and Ina Kronevska, treasurer and head of program of youngNVMS, respectively. A special contribution was provided by Angie McArdle (Females in Mass Spectrometry), whose insightful talk inspired a deep and engaging discussion among the panelists and audience. Key topics included awareness, representation, and the importance of turning dialogue into concrete action.

As a direct outcome of this discussion, the NVMS DEI Taskforce was officially introduced, marking an important step toward strengthening DEI within our community. The session emphasized the importance of continued conversation, commitment, and collective responsibility in building a more inclusive future for Dutch mass spectrometry.
